The South Carolina Gamecocks made some changes to its future football schedule. On Friday, the Gamecocks announced that it was canceling its previously announced series against North Carolina. The two were supposed to play in Columbia in 2028 and in Chapel Hill in 2029.Â
Typically, non-conference games were agreed upon years in advance, and were seen as beneficial to both programs. In years past, scheduling aggressively with non-conference opponents was beneficial for chances of teams making the College Football Playoff.Â
But thanks to all power conferences moving to nine-game conference schedules, there is little chance to schedule non-conference opponents outside of traditional rivals and previously agreed upon games.Â
With UNC off the books, let’s take a look at the non-conference opponents for Clemson starting in 2026 and beyond.Â
