South Carolina fans feel like Dawn Staley must be losing it on her team at halftime
South Carolina women's basketball opens their season at home as it starts their journey to their third straight National Championship. Dawn Staley and her squad are looking a little different this season, losing star Kamilla Cardoso to the WNBA, but don't be mistaken, this team is still the best in the country until proven otherwise.
Well, tonight, the Michigan women's basketball team is trying to prove it otherwise as they try to hand the Gamecocks their first loss since the 2022-2023 season. In the first half against the Wolverines, Chloe Kitts came off the bench to score 12 points for the Gamecocks, while players such as Tehina Paopaou, who is supposed to be the best player on this squad, have only scored seven points in the first half.
Fans could see the anger and frustration on Staley's face before the first half ended, and they feel that must have continued into the locker room, where she had quite the halftime conversation with her team.
Imagine being a fly on the wall in the locker room as Staley talks with her back-to-back championship team. The offense just doesn't seem quite as explosive as it is known to be, and the presence of Cardoso is clearly missed.
Staley probably did not have this on her bingo card to start the season, but the second half will show what this team is truly made of.
Sometimes, a team needs to hear the tough things at halftime to snap themselves back into the game. If there is one thing Staley has shown, it is that she can motivate her team and pull them together.
Staley did not look happy and an unhappy Staley is never good for anyone.
This is going a little far; this is the first game and just the first half of the first game of the season. You need a little more of a sample size to make a statement like this, but if the Gamecocks drop this one, it will leave a lot to be talked about.
