The 89th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas is set for December 20, and several South Carolina Gamecock commitments will showcase their talent in one of the region's most prestigious all-star games. The game will take place at Viking Stadium on the campus of Spartanburg High School on Dec. 20 at 1:00 p.m.
South Carolina commits earn Shrine Bowl nods
South Pointe's J'Zavien Currence, one of the Gamecocks' cornerstone defensive back pledges, headlines the South Carolina squad. He will play his college position in the secondary. Tight end pledge Jamel Howse also received the honor, although he will line up as a wide receiver in the game.
Another tight end commit, Caden Ramsey, earned his spot in the "athlete" category thanks to his versatility at Cross High, where he contributed on both sides of the ball. Meanwhile, in the trenches, in-state offensive line commitments Zyon Guiles and Anthony Baxter were both selected as offensive linemen.
South Carolina targets also among the picks
The Gamecocks' recruiting board was also represented among Shrine Bowl selections. Greenwood's Triston Lewis, who is being recruited as a defensive back but excels at quarterback for the Eagles, was picked to play QB for the all-star game. Four-star Sequel Patterson of Indian Land, considered a South Carolina target at wide receiver, was chosen on the defensive side of the ball.
North Carolina squad includes Gamecock pledge
On the North Carolina squad, defensive tackle commitment Noah Clark is the lone Gamecock pledge to make the roster.
Shrine Bowl limits keep others out
Shrine Bowl rules allow a maximum of two players from each high school to be selected. That cap prevented other potential South Carolina targets such as Grimsley's Kosci Barnes and Myers Park twins Aiden and Andrew Harris from joining the roster.
The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas remains one of the premier showcases for future SEC and ACC stars, and the South Carolina's strong presence this year underscores Shane Beamer's emphasis on recruiting in the Carolinas pipeline.
