The South Carolina Gamecocks coaching staff is hard at work for the upcoming 2026 season, which starts fall camp this week. But it is also making headway on adding recruits to its 2028 class.
The newest addition to the class could very well be four-star offensive lineman Sam Williams, who is from Carrollton, Ga. Over the weekend, Williams released his final three schools, and South Carolina made the cut as a finalist. Williams posted his final schools on X, and the Gamecocks are alongside Georgia Tech and in-state rival Clemson for his services:

Williams is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 7 overall interior offensive lineman for 2027, and the No. 12 overall prospect from his home state of Georgia. South Carolina was one of his early SEC offers, as Coach Beamer offered him in May 2025.
His offers from his other two final schools in Clemson and Georgia Tech came later, with the Yellow Jackets offering him in April of this year. Clemson offered him in mid-June. He took unofficial visits to Tennessee and Florida State recently, but neither of them made his final schools. According to Gamecock247, Williams visited South Carolina during the Gamecocks' home game against Alabama last season.
Williams would be a welcomed addition to South Carolina's 2028 class. It currently ranks eighth in the country per 247Sports, and includes two commitments. South Carolina added wide receivers Joseph Gibbs and Jhamari Cain last month.
At this time, it's unclear when Williams will visit his final schools, but those could likely come during the regular season. He has not set a commitment date, but narrowing his final schools is a good next step in getting there.
South Carolina's 2028 class does not have an offensive lineman, so Williams would fill a definite need there. The Gamecocks' 2027 class has three offensive linemen, including Jaxon Elston, Will Endicott and James Ross. July was a busy month for South Carolina's 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes, and that momentum has to continue for Shane Beamer entering a critical 2026 season.
