South Carolina baseball loses series, falls to Clemson 5-1 at Fluor Field

The South Carolina Gamecocks suffered a 5-1 loss to the Clemson Tigers on March 1, 2025, at Fluor Field. Despite a strong pitching performance by Jake McCoy, the Gamecocks couldn't overcome Clemson's late-game surge, losing the series to their in-state rivals.

The South Carolina Gamecocks loss the annual rivalry series against Clemson today, as the Tigers clenched the win 5-1, on Saturday at Fluor Field in Greenville, SC. Clemson won the first game of the series, 5-3, in Clemson on Friday night, and the Gamecocks will host the final contest at 5pm on Sunday in Columbia, SC.

The Tigers were the visiting team at a neutral site for today's game in the series. Their starting pitcher Ethan Darden went seven innings, gave up only three hits and no runs, as he struck out six, walked two, and had 59 strikeouts.

Up until the sixth inning, South Carolina pitcher Jake McCoy was able to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard, allowing three hits, two runs, and two walks while he struck out 12 batters.

Clemson's Drew Titsworth took over the mound, allowing two hits and the Gamecocks' only run, a homer hit by Ethan Petry in the eighth inning.

This is the first time Clemson, now 9-1, has won back-to-back series against South Carolina since the 2017-19 season. The Gamecocks have now lost eight of the last 11 against Clemson.
