Although South Carolina athletic Director Jeremiah Donati is in the middle of a coaching search for the Gamecocks open baseball job, several players have entered the transfer portal.

The Gamecocks have already seen the likes of three former players enter the portal, in starting pitcher Josh Gunther, fellow pitcher Alex Valentin and infielder Dawson Harman.

On Sunday, South Carolina lost yet another pitcher to the portal, in true freshman Patrick Dudley. Dudley was a highly-touted recruit coming out of high school, ranked as the No. 4 overall player out of his home state of Virginia and the No. 1 overall ranked left-handed pitcher. All players have several years of eligibility remaining, but Dudley is likely one of the biggest names to enter the portal from South Carolina.

Although Dudley made just five appearances for the Gamecocks, he had one save, and an ERA of 2.45.

Donati parted ways with interim Gamecocks' head coach Monte Lee, as well as pitching coach Terry Rooney. Rooney's departure from the program could potentially be playing a role in three Gamecock pitchers entering the portal. But you also can't blame them since whoever the new South Carolina coach will be did not recruit them to come to South Carolina.

The transfer portal is open from June 1-June 30. We'll see if whoever Donati hires convinces the group to take their names out of the portal and stay put in Columbia.
