For South Carolina baseball's newest verbal commit from the class of 2028 player Beau Hite, playing for the Gamecocks is a dream come true. Hite is the newest addition to Kevin Schnall's 2028 recruiting class, committing to South Carolina in mid-August.

He is a South Carolina native, and someone who has dreamed of one day suiting up for the garnet and black. When Schnall and the Gamecock baseball player offered him to play in Columbia, Hite describes the moment as surreal.

"It really came to me pretty fast," Hite said of South Carolina's offer via Gamecock247's John Whittle. "I always dreamed about it as a kid, just going to all the Carolina games and having a lot of family there. It was always number one on my board, and it was a dream when they reached out."

Hite plays both shortstop and is a right-handed pitcher for his high school team, Emerald High School, in Greenwood, S.C. He is a talented dual-sport athlete, who also plays quarterback for his high school squad. Last season for Emerald, he threw for 1,845 yards with 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last year, adding 398 yards with four scores on the ground per MaxPreps. He is expected to be the Vikings' starting signal-caller in 2026, as well. For his baseball team, he finished last season with a .352 batting average, including nine RBI last season.

As for his connection to the Gamecocks, it's been in his blood since birth. Per Gamecocks 247, his parents met at South Carolina's law school, and his mother was a Gamecock cheerleader.

Although there were several SEC programs that reached out to Hite for his services, South Carolina stood out. It helps that Hite grew up going to South Carolina football games, and he adds that the Gamecocks' resources and commitment to winning championships helped set South Carolina even further apart.

He's ranked as one of the top players coming out of his home state. As for where he will play for the Gamecocks, he adds that he will likely go wherever he plays better:

"It really just depends on what I'm best at," Hite told 247. "I have the work ethic to be a two-way, in my opinion. I'm going to go in there as a two-way and see what I'm best at, really. If it ends up being a two-way, that's awesome. If it ends up I'm better at one or the other, that's what I'll play."

Given that he is a class of 2028 prospect, there is some time for him to figure out where he feels the most comfortable by the time he steps on-campus in Columbia. Hite is now one of three members of South Carolina's 2028 recruiting class, joining utility player Ivan Andino and outfielder Hudson Simmons.

Congrats to Hite on joining the Gamecocks, and welcome home!
