One of the key members of Shane Beamer's 2027 recruiting class in four-star safety Jernard Albright is on the move. No, he is not de-committing from South Carolina's class, but rather, he has decided to transfer to a new high school for his senior season.Â
According to ESPN's Billy Tucker, Albright has decided to play his senior season of high school football at powerhouse Frances Academy, located in Baltimore, Md. Previously, Albright played his first three seasons at Effingham County in Springfield, Ga. The school played out of Georgia's Class 5A in 2025-26.Â
Saint Frances, which is a Catholic high school, boasts a powerhouse athletics and football program. It has produced the likes of football players Blake Corum, Chris Braswell, Jamon Dumas-Johnson, Elijah Sarratt, Michael Van Buren Jr. and even LSU and WNBA star Angel Reese.Â
The football program was founded in 2008, with initial funding provided by former longtime Michigan assistant and Charlotte head coach Biff Poggi. Just last season, St. Frances won the first-ever high school national championship in the newly-created Overtime Nationals. The program plays as an independent, and finished last season ranked No. 1 nationally in Sports Illustrated's high school football rankings.
Albright committed to South Carolina on Dec. 25 last year, and is rated as the No. 12 safety in the class of 2027, and ranks No. 5 overall in Maryland per the 247Sports Composite. Per Maxpreps, Albright accounted for 50 total tackles last season with two interceptions and three passes defended last season. For now, the move to Saint Frances is not expected to affect his commitment to South Carolina. He holds offers from other schools such as Texas, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Michigan and Miami, along with several others. Â
He is one of just two verbal commits in Beamer's 2027 recruiting class, which ranks 61st nationally.Â
