The South Carolina Gamecocks are entering a crucial season in Columbia in 2026. Following a 4-8 season, Shane Beamer has both re-tooled his roster and coaching staff with the hopes of rebounding to have a huge year.Â
As the calendar turns to the summer months, it's the last chance for preparations to begin for the 2026 season. The Gamecocks will open the season against Kent State at home. Over the weekend, South Carolina's social media team put together a clip showing Beamer addressing his team with the first official meeting of the summer:Â

As you can see, it sounds like Coach Beamer has high expectations for his team heading into the year. He tells them that the Gamecocks have a "hell of a team," while also mentioning a goal for South Carolina is to be a CFP team. While most expect the Gamecocks to compete for a spot during bowl season, South Carolina making the 12-team playoff would be a first in program history.  Â
The 4-8 record for Beamer was the worst of his tenure in Columbia, and it came after a 9-4 season in 2024. In the offseason, South Carolina overhauled its coaching staff, adding the likes of new offensive coordinator Kendal Briles from TCU. Briles brought along offensive line coach Randy Clements and running backs coach Stan Drayton.Â
South Carolina's roster includes major key returnees, including quarterback LaNorris Sellers, receiver Nyck Harbor, running back Matt Fuller and EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart. In the transfer portal, Beamer also added a Top-10 prospect in offensive tackle Jaccarius Peak, as well as running back Christian Clark via Texas.Â
Obviously most head coaches across the country are addressing thor teams like Beamer just did here. But you can tell that the sixth-year head coach has some high expectations, and thinks the Gamecocks can be a force in 2026.Â
