President Donald Trump recently revealed plans to form a special government committee aimed at addressing the challenges in college athletics, specifically the increase of unregulated money within the college sports world.

At the helm of the initiative is none other than the legendary Alabama coach Nick Saban. Joining Saban as co-chair of the committee is Texas Tech mega-booster Cody Campbell. These two should offer a high-profile pairing of football and financial influence.

In recent days, during a stop on the Welcome Home Tour in Greenville, SC, head coach Shane Beamer was asked his thoughts on the news. While Beamer admitted that he had not had the time to fully digest the details, he said, " “I saw that. I was reading some of that coming up here today on my phone, just some information about it. I don’t know enough about it."

Beamer did show his support for the choice in Saban leading the effort. "I think if you’re looking for anyone to spearhead change or be in a leadership position when it comes to college football going forward, he’s the first person that would come to mind from my standpoint,” Beamer said.

Beamer, along with many coaches in college football has voiced concerns with the current state of the sport, particularly surrounding the transfer portal and tampering. With multiple portal windows throughout the year, including one that opens before the season ends, maintaining roster integrity has become increasingly difficult.

“If he’s leading the charge,” Beamer said, “I’m all for it.”
