South Carolina fans are hoping that quarterback LaNorris Sellers spends the rest of their college career in Columbia, but with the state of college football right now, Sellers could choose to head to the NFL early, leaving the Gamecocks behind.
Now, with the way Sellers is playing in his career right now, he could use another year at the college level, and he is going to get that, but depending on the steps he takes, he could be NFL-worthy after next season. If that is the case, South Carolina would be out their starting quarterback and be right back to where they were before the 2024 season.
Things aren't so bleak now, though, as head coach Shane Beamer just landed one of the top young quarterbacks in the transfer portal out of Ohio State. Former Class of 2024 four-star recruit Air Noland has officially committed to the Gamecocks, and while he won't be QB1 next season, he could have a lot to offer South Carolina.
Now, there are some questions with the Gamecocks bringing in Noland, the first being, how does he play in a game? Noland did not see the field with the Buckeyes as Ohio State had a very crowded quarterback room, a big reason why he chose to transfer. Instead of competing in a battle for the starting role, one that seems to already be over, Noland chose to take his talents elsewhere.
The next question is, what about Cutter Woods? South Carolina signed the young three-star quarterback in their 2025 recruiting class, and with the departure of Robby Ashford to the transfer portal, all signs pointed to Woods being the potential backup to Sellers. However, that is a risky move as well.
Even though Noland never played in a game for Ohio State, he still has a year of college football under his belt that Woods simply doesn't have. Beamer could also have other plans for Woods going forward, but right now, it seems like Noland could be the successor for Sellers.
