The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to rebound from a down 4-8 season in Columbia. Two key players that can help them do that are offensive lineman Jacarrius Peak and star EDGE rusher Dylan Stewart.Â
Both guys were very limited during spring football, as Peak suffered a knee injury during a pick-up school basketball game, and Stewart was rehabbing from a back injury he suffered and played through last season.Â
On Tuesday, Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer addressed how both guys are progressing heading into the summer months.Â
"Doing well," Beamer said of both guys when meeting with the media via The Big Spur. "In the middle of exit meetings right now with all the players and those guys I'd say are both ahead of schedule."
Peak transferred to South Carolina this offseason from NC State, and is expected to have a big season. One early mock draft for the 2027 NFL Draft even has him going in the first round.Â
Stewart, who will be a junior in 2026, has combined for 56 total tackles with three passes defended and six forced fumbles over his two seasons. He had a career-high 6.5 sacks as a true freshman, but finished last season with only 4.5 on the year.Â
"Nothing new on Dylan, best thing for him is rest and that's what he's doing," Beamer continued. "Our guys, yesterday was the last day of class in Columbia, so they're getting ready to start up exams this week. And then they get a little bit of a break, but most of those guys are planning on, those two guys in particular, plan on being around Columbia most of May. I want them to be able to get home for a little bit."
"But as far as recovery wise, they're ahead of schedule, both feel great. And timeframe is still the same as far as we head into the season."
Although nothing has been confirmed, it sounds like both guys should be on-track by the time fall camp arrives in August. That's news South Carolina fans are certainly relieved to hear.
