The South Carolina Gamecocks are entering the 2026 season looking to rebuild after a tough 4-8 season. Although there are several games on the Gamecocks' schedule that appear to be winnable, there are even more that look particularly tough. Not to mention South Carolina's 2026 season is considered to be one of the toughest in the country.Â
The folks at ESPN have added matchup predictors for all 12 of the Gamecocks' 2026 season, using percentages to gauge which team has the edge. Using those numbers and our own judgement, let's take a look at the toughest games for the Gamecocks during the 2026 season.  Â
1. Sept. 26, at Alabama: 21.1% chance to win
This is unquestionably the toughest test for head coach Shane Beamer's team during the 2026 season. Not only is this a road game, South Carolina has to play a College Football Playoff team from last season in Alabama. The good news here is that South Carolina nearly pulled out an upset of the Tide last season, leading 15-14. At SEC Media Days this week, Coach Beamer talked about emphasizing winning games in the fourth quarter this offseason.Â
2. Oct. 31, at Oklahoma: 24.9 % chance to winÂ
These two teams played last season, with the Sooners getting a 26-7 win in Columbia on their way to a CFP berth. This year, the Gamecocks will go on the road to face Oklahoma in Norman. Unfortunately for South Carolina, the Sooners look like they will be a playoff threat once again in 2026, returning quarterback John Mateer, running back Tory Blaylock and an entire offensive line.Â
3. Nov. 21, vs. Georgia: 20% chance to winÂ
Death, taxes and the Georgia Bulldogs being the favorites in the SEC. That's where Kirby Smart finds himself entering 2026, as South Carolina will play the Dawgs for the first time since 2023. Unfortunately for the Gamecocks, Coach Beamer has never beaten Georgia in his tenure, losing the last four straight meetings from 2020-2023. But the one advantage South Carolina will use to its full advantage in this one? Getting this game at home. Â
4. Nov. 7 vs. Texas A&M: 30.5% chance to win Â
Last year's Texas A&M game for South Carolina featured a massive second-half collapse, as the Gamecocks gave up a 30-3 halftime lead on the road. The Aggies look like a CFP threat once again in 2026, returning starting quarterback Marcel Reed under center. The good news is that South Carolina gets this one in Williams-Brice, so it should be a great opportunity for the Gamecocks to pull off an upset.Â
5. Nov. 28 at Clemson: 38.9% chance to win
South Carolina lost this one 28-14 last year, which was disappointing given Clemson's down 7-6 finish in 2025. Dabo Swinney is eager to engineer a turnaround in 2026, and the Gamecocks could play the role of CFP spoiler in the Palmetto Bowl this year. Although this one is at Clemson, Coach Beamer has actually won the last two games in this series on the road.Â
6. Oct. 10 at Florida: 37.9% chance to winÂ
An SEC East rivalry gets renewed this year, as the Gamecocks and Gators will play for the first time since 2023. Obviously playing in Ben Hill Griffin will be no easy feat, but South Carolina returns several more starters than Florida, which has first-year head coach Jon Sumrall. The key to victory just might come down to winning in the trenches, as Florida returns just two starters along the offensive line.  Â
7. Oct. 24 vs. Tennessee: 49.4% chance to win
As you can see, this one is largely considered a toss-up for South Carolina. Tennessee's win projection according to ESPN FPI is 7.3 wins, as the Vols will be starting a new quarterback in either second-year quarterback George MacIntyre or true freshman Faizon Brandon. South Carolina also gets this one at home.
