The latest South Carolina Gamecocks news from the last week, starting with a few personnel updates from the football team

Confirming what has been expected, head coach Shane Beamer announced that LaNorris Sellers will be the starting quarterback for the season opener against Old Dominion.

Fellow quarterback Davis Beville was put on scholarship. The 6th-year senior passed up a scholarship spot to stay with the Oklahoma Sooners so that he could transfer to his home-state Gamecocks. He is expected to be the third quarterback on the depth chart.

Wide receiver Ahmari Huggins-Bruce is no longer with the Gamecocks. After transferring to the University of South Carolina this offseason from Louisville, Huggins-Bruce did not seem poised to crack the two-deep on the receiver depth chart this fall. He has transferred back to Louisville and is in the process of trying to rejoin the Cardinals football team.

Offensive linemen Jakai Moore and Aaryn Parks will not play this weekend against the Old Dominion Monarchs and could miss quite some time. Both players were battling for spots in the two-deep up front but were not expected to start.

Wide receiver Gage Larvadain and defensive back Emory Floyd have both been banged up according to Coach Beamer but are expected to be ready to go this weekend.

Shane Beamer's team had a handful of players receive some preseason honors.

Five Gamecocks made the coaches preseason All-SEC team. Long snapper Hunter Rogers (1st team), running back Rocket Sanders (2nd team), linebacker Debo Williams (2nd team), defensive back Nick Emmanwori (3rd team), and defensive lineman Tonka Hemingway (3rd team) all received the honor from the league's coaches.

Gamecock 5-star freshmen Dylan Stewart and Josiah Thompson both were named to multiple preseason Freshmen All-American teams. Thompson was selected by ESPN, On3, and 247Sports, while Stewart was picked by On3 and 247Sports.

Lamont Paris' South Carolina basketball team completed their 2024-2025 schedule.

The Gamecocks' entire schedule can be seen here.

Dawn Staley's team didn't make any news this week, but several Gamecock alums did.

Coach Staley presented her former player A'ja Wilson with the 2024 WNBA Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award for her combined excellence on the court and in her community.

A'ja Wilson also continued dominating the WNBA as she set a couple of new records and hit a game-winner on Sunday against the Chicago Sky.

Kamilla Cardoso set new career-highs for rebounds (15) and blocked shots (5) over the last week. She blocked A'ja Wilson 5 times on Sunday, marking the most blocks against Wilson in a single game.

Aliyah Boston set a new career-high with 8 assists against the Seattle Storm.

The University of South Carolina is inducting a loaded 9-person class into USC Letterman's Association Hall of Fame.

Melvin Ingram (football), Pharoh Cooper (football), Tommy Moody (baseball, broadcasting), Tiffany Mitchell (basketball), Jocelyn Penn (basketball), Bob Kaczka (track and field, cross country), Jason Richardson (track and field), Shalonda Solomon (track and field), and Dana Fulmer (softball) will be inducted officially on November 1st and recognized the next day when the South Carolina football team takes on the Texas A&M Aggies at Williams-Brice Stadium.
