South Carolina Football: Gamecock commit officially shuts down his recruitment
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football fans have been locked into transfer portal news the past few days (with good reason) as the program has seen its fair share of players exit Columbia, and some new faces have announced their commitments to the program.
However, high school recruiting news is still happening.
On Wednesday, between South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer's transfer portal commitment messages and the public announcements of the players themselves, fans might have missed something big.
4-star athlete Jalewis Solomon announced that he officially was shutting down his recruitment.
Solomon committed to Auburn this summer before flipping his commitment to the Gamecocks in October. The Under Armour All-American has been pursued by other programs since then (including Auburn), but Wednesday's announcement should allow for South Carolina football fans to rest easy regarding Solomon's status.
As a player, Solomon is an explosive athlete who excels as a cornerback and wide receiver for Schley County High School in Ellaville, Georgia. He is expected to play corner when he arrives in Columbia, and the USC coaching staff is very high on Solomon's ability to contribute early.
Solomon's older brother (Zykeivous Walker) is a defensive lineman at Auburn, and his younger brother (Zayden Walker) is a 5-star linebacker/EDGE prospect in the class of 2025.
When the elder Walker was at Auburn and Solomon was committed to the Tigers, Zayden Walker was considered a heavy lean to end up on the Plains. However, things have changed since then, and Walker did not include Auburn in his top-5 schools. The Gamecocks, though, are among his favorites. Alabama, Florida State, Miami, and Georgia are the other 4 schools in the running for Walker.
Jalewis Solomon is a Gamecock, and he has a chance to be a very good one.
