South Carolina Football: A former Gamecock announced his transfer portal commitment over the weekend
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football fans had a busy weekend keeping up with the transfer portal news surrounding the program.
The Gamecocks landed commitments late last week and over the weekend from Monkell Goodwine (defensive tackle, Alabama), Aaryn Parks (offensive lineman, Oklahoma), Bangally Kamara (linebacker, Pittsburgh), Gage Larvadain (wide receiver, Miami (OH)), and walk-on Buddy Mack (defensive back, Pittsburgh).
They also saw former Gamecocks like Grayson "Pup" Howard (linebacker, Florida), Stone Blanton (linebacker, Mississippi State), KaJuan Banks (defensive back, South Florida), Donovan Westmoreland (EDGE/linebacker, Kennesaw State), and Colten Gauthier (quarterback, Gardner-Webb) find new homes in the portal.
Perhaps lost in the madness, another former Gamecock announced his transfer portal commitment, as well.
Chapin native and rising redshirt sophomore Zavier Short will play next season at Appalachian State. App State was Short's original commitment in high school before flipping to the Gamecocks.
During his South Carolina football career, Short was moved around a bit, spending time at wide receiver, tight end, and h-back at different times. With the positional flip-flopping, he did not find a real role with the Gamecocks.
Carolina has had four other wide receivers leave Columbia as Juice Wells (Ole Miss), O'Mega Blake (East Carolina), Kylic Horton (undecided), and Landon Samson (undecided) are all no longer part of the program. They also lost tight end Kamron Sandlin (undecided) to the transfer portal.
Brady Hunt (tight end, Ball State), Ahmari Huggins-Bruce (wide receiver, Louisville), Gage Larvadain (wide receiver, Miami (OH)), and Jared Brown (wide receiver, Coastal Carolina) are all joining the South Carolina football program through the transfer portal, and high school signees Michael Smith (4-star tight end), Mazeo Bennett (4-star wide receiver), and Debron Gatling (3-star wide receiver) have all enrolled and will participate in spring practice.
