Who will coach South Carolina football stars Spencer Rattler and Xavier Legette in the Senior Bowl?

South Carolina football passing game combination Spencer Rattler and Xavier Legette had a tremendous showing in 2023. While the team struggled much of the season, the top quarterback and receiver were among the best in the SEC.

Both players are expected to be taken in the top half of the 2024 NFL Draft in April, and they both will be in Mobile, Alabama for the 75th annual installment of the Reese's Senior Bowl.

Last year, cornerback Darius Rush, defensive tackle Zacch Pickens, and offensive lineman Jovaughn Gwyn all participated in Senior Bowl activities, raising their draft stock in the process. Rush was named the defensive back of the week, and Pickens was the defensive lineman of the week. When last April's NFL Draft came around, all three were taken. Joining 2nd rounder Cam Smith and 7th rounder Jalen Brooks, Pickens went in the 3rd round, Rush went in the 5th, and Gwyn was taken in the 7th.

On Tuesday, the NFL and Senior Bowl made a joint announcement that they had selected the two head coaches for this year's week-long festivities: New York Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich and Tennessee Titans assistant head coach of defense/defensive line coach Terrell Williams. The two coaches have 23 years of combined NFL assistant coaching experience.

With both Ulbrich and Williams being defensive coaches, it is unclear how much Rattler and Legette (obviously, two offensive players) will work with their Senior Bowl head coaches. Instead, they will spend more of their time with their position coaches and offensive coordinators. The two rosters have not yet been finalized, but the National Team will be coached by Ulbrich and coordinators Shea Tierney (OC), Daronte Jones (DC), and Phil Galiano (STC). The American Team will be coached by Williams and coordinators Troy Brown (OC), Ephraim Banda (DC), and Mike Adams (STC).

The rest of the coaching staffs and the finalized rosters will be announced soon.

Former Gamecocks like running back MarShawn Lloyd (Southern Cal), tight end/running back/wide receiver Jaheim Bell (Florida State), and cornerback Johnny Dixon, Jr. (Penn State) will join Rattler and Legette at the Senior Bowl.

The 2024 Reese's Senior Bowl will take place on Saturday, February 3rd at 1:00 PM EST.
