South Carolina Football: Elite transfer portal target announces commitment
By Kevin Miller
The South Carolina football team had a busy transfer portal day on Thursday.
The Gamecocks lost class of 2023 4-star linebacker Grayson "Pup" Howard to the Florida Gators (less than two days after he entered the portal), transfer tight end commitment Brady Hunt flipped to the Texas A&M Aggies despite signing with USC in December, FCS All-American offensive lineman Torricelli Simpkins announced his commitment publicly (after committing privately on Wednesday), and Carolina picked up two new commitments from the transfer portal.
Wide receiver Ahmari Huggins-Bruce (Louisville), a South Carolina native, announced his intention to join his home state Gamecocks on Thursday, and linebacker Demetrius Knight (Charlotte) revealed his commitment to Carolina just a little while later. Both players have just one year of eligibility remaining.
Lost in all the other headlines, another South Carolina football transfer portal target announced his commitment to another school.
Rated as a 4-star portal player, Sarratt is reuniting with his head coach from James Madison, Curt Cignetti. Cignetti took the job with the Hoosiers in December, replacing the recently fired Tom Allen.
With Sarratt off the board for the Gamecocks, fans can expect head coach Shane Beamer and his staff to turn their attention elsewhere at the receiver position. Even though they have added two wideouts this transfer cycle (Jared Brown from Coastal Carolina and Ahmari Huggins-Bruce from Louisville), the South Carolina football roster could use another proven player in the wide receiver room.
Players like Jabre Barber (Troy) and Gage Larvadain (Miami (OH)) are names to watch for the Gamecocks, but in the world of the transfer portal, things can change quickly.
