South Carolina Football: Gamecock target makes commitment decision
By Kevin Miller
The springtime is often loaded with recruiting news, and for the South Carolina football program, that has been the case this spring. The Gamecocks have landed numerous commitments in the class of 2025, the class of 2026, and in the transfer portal, and USC has been working to grow the number of players committing to Shane Beamer's team.
This week, several Gamecock targets have revealed that they are ready to make a commitment soon, and several others have pared their lists of top schools. On Friday night, one player on Carolina's radar made his commitment.
South Carolina football linebacker target Sam Haley announced his college decision on social on Friday night. The Tennessee 'backer will be joining the TCU Horned Frog program next summer. He had the South Carolina Gamecocks, Tennessee Volunteers, North Carolina Tar Heels, West Virginia Mountaineers, Michigan State Spartans, Missouri Tigers, and Virginia Tech Hokies in his top-8.
Haley is not the only linebacker who was on the USC recruiting board, though. The most prominent of those players is 5-star outside linebacker/EDGE player Zayden Walker.
Walker, who is the younger brother of incoming Gamecock freshman Jalewis Solomon, a 4-star defensive back in the class of 2024. This week, Walker announced that he will commit in July. South Carolina is right in the thick of things in his recruitment, and the Gamecocks are part of his final four schools along with the Georgia Bulldogs, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Miami Hurricanes. USC and UGA appear to be the top suitors for his commitment.
While the Gamecocks do not have any 2025 linebacker commitments, 2026 4-star Rodney Colton, Jr. pledged his services to the South Carolina football team back in April. Colton is a consensus 4-star prospect but is teetering on "5-star territory" in the On3 individual recruiting rankings.
