South Carolina Football: Spencer Rattler and Xavier Legette are turning heads at the Senior Bowl
By Kevin Miller
The South Carolina football program has a history of sending players to Mobile, Alabama for strong performances at the Reese's Senior Bowl. Players like Deebo Samuel, Javon Kinlaw, and Kingsley "JJ" Enagbare upped their draft stock at the college all-star showcase, and last year, Darius Rush and Zacch Pickens won the defensive back MVP and defensive line MVP honors, respectively.
The trend of Senior Bowl ascensions could be continuing in 2024.
The South Carolina Gamecocks sent two to southern Alabama for the event, and they may have sent their two best. Quarterback Spencer Rattler and wide receiver Xavier Legette became two of the best to ever don the block C on their helmets this season, and their NFL Draft dreams will become a reality this April. In fact, if the early Senior Bowl practices are any indication, those dreams could come to fruition earlier in the process than some were anticipating.
One of the SEC's best pitch-and-catch combinations in 2023 has been turning heads in Mobile.
For Rattler, the situation at Oklahoma in 2021 seemed to make people forget just how talented he is at throwing the football. #7 is reminding the world of his God-given abilities this week. The Draft Network's Damian Parson, FWAA's Kyron Samuels, and Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy have all sung Rattler's praises this week.
Legette has shown off his impressive athleticism and playmaking ability at the Senior Bowl. Parson (again), Draft Sharks' CH Herns, and WYFFNews' Marc Whiteman were among those impressed by XL in his Senior Day practices.
ClutchGeneSports' Marco Martinez had praise for both Rattler and Legette, naming Rattler his "best QB so far" and saying that Legette was one of the "winners" from Senior Bowl practice.
The dynamic duo even got some reps together.
South Carolina football fans can watch Rattler and Legette compete in the Senior Bowl this Saturday at 1:00 EST. The game will be broadcast on the NFL Network.
