South Carolina Football: Gamecock transfer portal receiver target makes commitment
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football fans are hoping that new wide receivers coach Mike Furrey will be able to add a receiver or two through the transfer portal this spring, and they especially hope that Furrey can land a big-bodied player who can add some size to a receiver room that has just one player with any experience who is taller than 6'0".
The Garnet and Black Spring Game did not alleviate any of the concerns with the position group for most fans as there were not many open route-runners in the game, and there was a drop from a player expecting to contribute in a big way this fall.
The good news for the Gamecocks, though, is that Furrey and the other South Carolina football coaches have been involved with several pass-catchers from the transfer portal.
One of those targets was a name that may have been familiar to those who follow recruiting. UCLA transfer wideout Kyle Ford considered the Gamecocks (somewhat) out of high school and announced a top-6 last week that included South Carolina.
It didn't take long for Ford to make his announcement, though.
After spending just one season with the UCLA Bruins, Kyle Ford announced a commitment to the Southern Cal Trojans, the team with which he began his career. Originally in the class of 2019, Ford spent four years with the Trojans before joining the Bruins. He now will finish his career back where he started on the other side of Los Angeles.
For the South Carolina football program, there are plenty of other options still in the portal (and maybe some others who have not entered yet). Some other high-profile transfer portal targets who have expressed interest in the Gamecocks are Justus Ross-Simmons (Colorado State Rams) and Vandrevius Jacobs (Florida State Seminoles). There likely will be others in the mix during this process, as well.
