South Carolina Football: In-state target named top-10 player nationally at position
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football recently received its second commitment in the class of 2026. Elite 4-star linebacker Rodney Colton, Jr. (ranked as high as #2 in the nation among all linebackers) joined 4-star quarterback Landon Duckworth (ranked as high as #3 nationally among quarterbacks) as Gamecock pledges in the rising high school junior class.
Shane Beamer and his staff have made serious recruiting efforts on a large number of other prospects in the '26 cycle, too, and one of them recently received a sizable bump in his recruiting ranking.
Gidron appears to be heavily considering the Gamecocks as his recruitment heats up. He boasts offers from a significant amount of major programs, but South Carolina football fans are hoping he chooses to stay home.
As a player, Gidron's ranking makes a lot of sense. At 6'2" and 185 pounds, he has the size to be a legitimate threat to win with size as an outside receiver at the next level. He also has big-time speed as he already has run in the 10.7-range in the 100-meter as a track athlete. That combination of size and speed will be coveted by any coaching staff that watches his film.
Gidron isn't just a straight-line sprinter, though. He has enough wiggle and elusiveness to make a play when defenders are closing in around him. That, combined with his elite acceleration and top-end speed, makes him nearly impossible to stop at the high school level.
The Ridge View Blazers star has experience playing outside and in the slot, and he has been utilized as a deep-ball threat, in the quick game, and on intermediate routes. The multi-faceted nature of his game will come in handy at the next level.
