South Carolina Football: 4-star visiting this weekend, sets commitment date
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina football defensive backs coach Torrian Gray has flexed his recruiting muscle this offseason, securing commitments from two defensive backs. 4-star cornerback Shamari Earls is a lockdown corner and one of the recruiting industry's top risers, and in-state safety Damarcus Leach has a high upside as a long athlete who also can come downhill and deliver a blow in run support.
Gray also has the Gamecocks in solid contention for several other big-time secondary prospects in the class of 2025. One of those players recently revealed his top-5 and his commitment date.
According to a joint report from On3's Chad Simmons and Keegan Pope, North Carolina native JaDon Blair has set his commitment date for July 5th. Blair also was photographed at the On3 Elite Series showcase with five hats, signifying his top-5 teams.
The South Carolina Gamecocks, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Penn State Nittany Lions, Florida State Seminoles, and Michigan Wolverines are the top-5, and Blair will take official visits to each school this summer. He will be in Columbia this weekend for his official visit with the Gamecocks.
As a player, JaDon Blair is a freaky athlete. At 6'4"/6'5" and near 200 pounds, he still has good speed as evidenced by a 40-yard dash time of 4.5. He is an aggressive player, too, finding plenty of opportunities to lay the lumber in run support or make a play on the football when passes are in the air.
Blair appears smooth and comfortable as a player, no matter what he is asked to do. As a free safety over the top, he quickly diagnoses the play in front of him and reacts with cruel intentions for his opponent. His play-making ability was a big reason why he was named the Central Piedmont Conference 4A Defensive Player of the Year.
Blair has also played wide receiver in high school, but his future seems to be as a safety.
