South Carolina football disrespected as Williams-Brice left off of hilariously bad stadium rankings list
By Kevin Miller
Most across the world of college football have a solid understanding of the best Saturday venues in the sport. Elite environments like LSU's Tiger Stadium (AKA Death Valley) and Penn State's Beaver Stadium and historic cathedrals like Michigan Stadium (Michigan Wolverines) and Notre Dame Stadium (Notre Dame Fighting Irish) always appear near the top of these lists. South Carolina football fans have done their part over the years for Williams-Brice Stadium to be part of these discussions, too.
Well, most of the time anyway.
According to a new ranking from the staff at ESPN.com, Williams-Brice is not one of the top-25 stadiums in college football. In fact, if one was to believe the rankings, the Gamecocks' home venue isn't even close as USC was the 17th team included in the "others receiving votes" category.
Despite a well-recognized venue, some of the most passionate fans in the country, an elite entrance (2001 all the way through Sandstorm), a state of the art light show, the best video media team in the country, and a routinely-sold out set of bleachers, South Carolina football fans were disappointed to see (or not see) where the Gamecocks' home stadium was listed.
Chris Low, Adam Rittenberg, Kyle Bonagura, Andrea Adelson, Dave Wilson, and Harry Lyles Jr. were listed as being part of the 14-person group tasked with voting on this list. Each analyst was asked to rank the top-20, and the top-25 came from those votes as 20 points were awarded for a 1st-place vote, 19 for 2nd, and so on.
