The Early Signing Period for college football began on Wednesday, and National Letters of Intent have been flying in from all over the country. While most of those NLIs are not sent in via fax machine anymore, commitments are not official until paperwork is completed. The South Carolina football program is hoping to have most of their class secured by the end of the Early Signing Period.
One of the players in the class who made things official is 3-star transfer wide receiver Jared Brown.
Position: WR
Recruiting Ranking: 3 stars (On3, 247Sports)
Measurables: 6'0"; 180 pounds; 4.46-second 40-yard dash;
Former Player Comp: Deebo Samuel
Jared Brown is a really good football player. As a wide receiver, he can do a lot of different things on the field. He is a deep-ball threat because of his speed, but he has enough quickness to be a factor in the quick game, as well. Brown also has carried the ball for over 400 yards on the ground in the last two years, often in the swing pass game and on jet sweeps.
As a player, Brown plays a lot like all-time great Gamecock Deebo Samuel. Samuel is thicker than Brown, and comparing anyone to Deebo Samuel is dangerous. However, Brown is like a Deebo-lite (both in weight and production). If he can come anywhere close to the production level of the NFL All-Pro, the Gamecocks will be very happy with bringing Brown in via the transfer portal.
For the Gamecocks, he seems like a lock to play immediately. South Carolina football does not have a wide receiver on the roster who has over 200 yards receiving in his career. Brown could play in the slot or on the outside depending on what Carolina's bigger need is, but he will be on the field a lot either way.
