South Carolina Football: Another Gamecock commit? Shane Beamer drops another #WelcomeHome
By Kevin Miller
No, you're not reading the same article again. When South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer dropped another #WelcomeHome to his Twitter/X account on Friday, it was the Gamecocks' fourth commitment in the last three days.
The previous three pledges all have one year of eligibility remaining.
The first came from offensive lineman Torricelli Simpkins. SImpkins was an FCS All-American and MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2023 with North Carolina Central. He has the size to play any spot up front (6'5" and 320 pounds), but he has played most of his games at center.
The second #WelcomeHome (and third revealed commitment) came from linebacker Demetrius Knight. Knight is a converted quarterback with real speed at the second level of the defense. After spending four years with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, he led the Charlotte 49ers in tackles in 2023.
The final commitment announced by Coach Beamer was from a South Carolina native. Wide receiver Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, a graduate of Dillon High School, spent three years at Louisville but will play his final year with the South Carolina football program.
The fourth #WelcomeHome came in a little after lunch on Friday.
Following a similar pattern to the previous three commitment teasers, Beamer's message didn't include any hashtags, indicating that the commitment is one from the transfer portal, just like the last three.
In addition to the players who have already committed to South Carolina football, the Gamecocks have had several players on campus this week. Wide receivers Gage Larvadain (Miami (OH)) and Jabre Barber (Troy), offensive lineman Reuben Unije (Houston), and linebackers Mani Powell (Arkansas) and Bangally Kamara (Pittsburgh) all visited and are viewed playing a position of need.
With the Gamecocks' picking up commitments from those three positions in the last couple of days, the perceived "need" might have changed, but there is room on the roster for help at all of those spots, especially wide receiver. The Gamecocks are also looking to add a quarterback to the roster to compete with presumed starter LaNorris Sellers and incoming freshman Dante Reno.
