SEC Shorts is one of the top Southeastern Conference social media content accounts on the internet. With July 1st being the official start of a new era of a 16-team league, the team at SEC Shorts posted a skit in which the South Carolina football team and the rest of the league welcome the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners to their new conference home.
The video was over 5 minutes long, and several other prominent social media faces made appearances alongside the SEC Shorts crew, including Matt Mitchell (playing the Arkansas Razorbacks role), Jermaine "FunnyMaine" Johnson (filling in as the Alabama Crimson Tide representative), and Josh Mancuso (donning the orange and white of the Tennessee Volunteers).
It's a must-watch for SEC football fans.
In addition to a video that's worth watching for fanbases from across the SEC, South Carolina football fans may notice a few things through their garnet-colored lenses:
- The Gamecock representative is rocking a vintage Marcus Lattimore (or DeVonte Holloman) jersey. Nice.
- USC and Texas A&M are sharing a table, showcasing the fact that the SEC's attempt at forcing a rivalry between the two schools (Bonham Trophy, anyone??) has not worked.
- In the video, LSU mentioned that the SEC might make up the entire field in Omaha at the College World Series. The SEC has won the last five National Championships, and 8 current SEC teams (half of the league) have won a title in the last 20 years. 11 of those 20 seasons saw a current SEC team win the title, including two from the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2010 and 2011.
- The Alabama representative in the video said on behalf of the entire conference that, "we're not the ACC," eliciting a celebratory response from the group. Since their biggest rival plays in the ACC, South Carolina Gamecocks fans watching the video probably celebrated at the ACC dig, too.
The 2024 season begins for South Carolina football on August 31st when they welcome Old Dominion to Williams-Brice Stadium for a 4:15 kickoff on the SEC Network. After that, though, the SEC slate begins with a road trip to Lexington to face the Kentucky Wildcats. A home game against the LSU Tigers, another against the Ole Miss Rebels, a tough two-game road trip against the Alabama Crimson Tide and Oklahoma Sooners, the home "rivalry" against the Texas A&M Aggies, a road game against the Vanderbilt Commodores, and a home tilt vs. the Missouri Tigers round out the Gamecocks' SEC schedule this fall.
