South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer and his coaching staff completely made over the running back room this offseason. In addition to replacing Montario Hardesty with Marquel Blackwell as the running backs coach, the Gamecocks have four new running backs on the roster.

4-star freshman Matthew Fuller was joined in the recruiting class by transfers Rocket Sanders (Arkansas), Oscar Adaway (North Texas), and Jawarn Howell (South Carolina State). It was one of the most impressive transfer portal position room flips of the 2023-2024 offseason. With Mario Anderson's transfer to Memphis and DK Joyner's graduation, the Gamecocks had to make major moves at the position, and they did.

However, a former South Carolina football running back is still in the transfer portal.

Rashad Amos, who left the Gamecock program after the 2022 season, was really good at Miami (OH) this fall, and now that he is transferring again, he is one of the top players still available in the portal. In fact, according to 247Sports, Amos is the second-best player currently in the transfer portal.

After not getting much of a chance in Columbia due to fumbling issues, Amos ran roughshod over the MAC in 2023, compiling 1075 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns for the Redhawks, good for third and second in the conference, respectively. He still struggled to hold onto the football with Miami (OH) this season, including three fumbles against Appalachian State in the Cure Bowl.

Even with those fumbling struggles, Amos' talent is intriguing to teams that need help on the ground. There were only 36 players in college football who ran for more yards than Amos last year and only 21 who scored more rushing touchdowns. He can have up to two more years of eligibility remaining, as well, adding to his value as a portal addition.

In 247Sports' transfer portal rankings, he only trails former Washington Huskies cornerback Jabbar Muhammad.
