South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris orchestrated one of the top turnarounds in recent college basketball history last season. The Gamecocks went from tying a program record for losses in the 2022-2023 campaign (21) to tying a program record for wins in the 2023-2024 season (26).
The successful season in Columbia has brought new life to the South Carolina basketball fanbase, and the Gamecock Faithful can't wait to see what their favorite team can accomplish on the hardwood in the 2024-2025 season.
Despite losing key contributors like Ta'Lon Cooper (graduation), BJ Mack (graduation), and Meechie Johnson (transfer portal, Ohio State Buckeyes), the Gamecocks are expected to be in contention for another NCAA Tournament berth when March Madness begins next spring. Transfer portal additions Nick Pringle (Alabama Crimson Tide), Jordan Butler (Missouri Tigers), and Jamarii Thomas (Norfolk State) and incoming freshmen Cam Scott (4-star wing) and Okku Federiko (4-star forward) have fortified the roster. Paris has another scholarship to work with, as well.
On Monday, the SEC released its entire 2024-2025 schedule, so now the Gamecocks will have a clear view of the path ahead of them (at least, as clear a view as one can get six months before the season begins). Dates, times, and television/streaming information will not be known for some time, but all opponents, both home and away, have been announced.
Every SEC team will play the other 15 teams in the league at least once. The other three conference matchups will come with 2 "permanent" opponents (for the Gamecocks, this is the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs) who will be played twice each season, and one rotating twice-a-year foe (this year, the Mississippi State Bulldogs).
