South Carolina Basketball: Gamecock signee wins ANOTHER all-star game MVP
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina basketball signee Joyce Edwards is one of the top prospects ever to sign with the Gamecocks, and the dynamic forward simply can't stop winning awards.
Earlier this year, Edwards was chosen as the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year, the MaxPreps National Player of the Year, and the Morgan Wootten National Player of the Year. She has made virtually every All-American squad that exists. She also has played in showcases for only the elite of the elite.
She's dominated those all-star showcases, too.
Edwards was the McDonald's All-American Game co-MVP and the MVP at the Nike Hoop Summit. Over the weekend, she brought her tally to three all-star game MVPs.
Playing at the Jordan Brand Classic, Edwards dominated against some of the other top players in her high school class. Playing against a long list of fellow 5-star prospects, Edwards led all scorers with 25 points (on 12/15 shooting!!!), dished out 2 assists, and pulled down 7 rebounds. She also added 6 steals and 2 blocks on the defensive end of the court.
Edwards led her Team Flight squad to a come-from-behind victory 111-103. Her defensive disruption and offensive efficiency in the 2nd half were the differences in the game.
Fellow South Carolina basketball signee Maddy McDaniel was also on the Jordan Brand Classic roster, but she did not play as she is still rehabbing a knee injury she suffered during her high school postseason. Edwards and McDaniel will join fellow class of 2024 blue chipper Adhel Tac (who enrolled at the University of South Carolina in January) in Columbia later this summer.
Edwards represents the third 5-star Columbia-area native to join the South Carolina basketball program in the last three offseasons, joining forward Ashlyn Watkins and guard MiLaysia Fulwiley.
