Back in April, South Carolina basketball made the top-6 for 5-star forward prospect Jamier Jones along with the Kansas Jayhawks, Providence Friars, Houston Cougars, Ohio State Buckeyes, and LSU Tigers. Jones, one of the top athletes in the entire country in the class of 2025, also included a commitment date announcement with the reveal of his final six.

That date was Sunday, May 12th.

On Mother's Day afternoon, Jamier Jones went live on Instagram with On3's Joe Tipton and announced his commitment to play for the Providence Friars and head coach Kim English.

A commitment in basketball is not quite like it is in football. Usually, players wind up enrolling at the school where they commit. However, the Gamecocks have had some recent situations in which that has not been the case as Cam Scott committed and signed with the Texas Longhorns before becoming a Gamecock, and Trent Noah committed and signed with the South Carolina Gamecocks before winding up with the Kentucky Wildcats. USC also recently flipped VCU transfer portal commitment Jamarii Thomas.

There is no reason to suspect that Jones ends up anywhere other than Providence, but with the recent recruiting craziness, it is worth noting that Carolina has been involved in some recruitments that have deviated from the norm.

In the class of 2025, the South Carolina basketball program already has two high school commitments as 4-star scoring guard Eli Ellis and athletic in-state forward Hayden Assemian pledged their services to Lamont Paris and his team back in the fall.

With five seniors (so far) on the roster heading into the 2024-2025 season and one scholarship spot still available, Coach Paris and his staff will keep recruiting the high school ranks and the transfer portal as they look to fill out the roster both for next season and for the future.
