South Carolina Basketball: Gamecocks add HUGE road trip to next year's schedule
By Kevin Miller
The term "blue blood" has been a topic of conversation around Columbia thanks to the ridiculous claim from Clemson baseball coach Erik Bakich that his Tigers are a blue blood program. However, on Wednesday, news came out that South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris added a road trip to the Gamecocks' schedule to a true blue blood program.
Around lunchtime on Wednesday, news broke that Carolina will be hopping on a flight to Bloomington, Indiana for an out-of-conference matchup with the Indiana Hoosiers. The Gamecocks and Hoosiers will meet on the hardwood on Saturday, November 16th at Assembly Hall, one of the great venues in college basketball.
The game will be just the second ever between the programs in Indiana and the first since December of 1973 when legends like Alex English, Brian Winters, and Mike Dunleavy led the way for the Gamecocks. The two teams met up in 1972 in Columbia at the Carolina Coliseum and in 1998 in Indianapolis at the Market Square Arena.
Indiana had a "down season" this past winter, missing the NCAA Tournament. However, the Hoosiers are looking to rebound in the 2024-2025 campaign after a strong recruiting effort in the transfer portal this offseason. Head coach Mike Woodson is on the hot seat entering the year, while Gamecock headman Lamont Paris signed a lucrative extension earlier this spring that will keep him in charge of the Gamecocks for some time.
South Carolina basketball is seeking its second-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, something the Gamecocks have no accomplished since the '90s. The Gamecocks tied a program record for wins last year with 26 victories, a number that matched the 2016-2017 Final Four team. The team's 25 wins before the conference tournament set a new regular-season record.
The television and streaming information for the game will be announced at a later date.
