Zach Davis is known for his defensive ability for Lamont Paris' South Carolina basketball team. The Denmark-Olar High School product combines length (6'8") and athleticism to be one of the best on-ball stoppers in the Southeastern Conference.
Davis has also improved his offensive game this season. He has increased his scoring, his shooting efficiency, his 3-point percentage, his free throw attempts, his free throw percentage, and his assists. In the past several games. Of his 9 career games with at least 8 points, 3 have come in the last 4 games, including setting a career-high in scoring twice against Ole Miss and Texas A&M. The Gamecocks are 8-1 when the sophomore scores at least 8 points.
However, there's more to Zach Davis than just playing basketball for the Gamecocks.
This week, he was honored as a member of the All-SEC Community Service Team. Davis joins Bree Hall from the South Carolina basketball women's team as a starting small forward/wing in Columbia who has made the All-SEC Community Service team.
Zach Davis has been involved in community efforts both in Columbia and in his hometown near Orangeburg. In fact, Davis leads the Gamecocks in service hours this year as he worked as a mentor at after-school programs through the Boys and Girls Club in Columbia and helped out with the City of Columbia's Parks and Recreation Department (where current Gamecock off-court assistant coach and legendary point guard Carey Rich previously worked).
Davis is joined on the All-SEC Community Service Team by Max Scharnowski (Alabama Crimson Tide), Lawson Blake (Arkansas Razorbacks), Chaney Johnson (Auburn Tigers), Walter Clayton Jr. (Florida Gators), Silas Demary Jr. (Georgia Bulldogs), Brennan Canada (Kentucky Wildcats), Jordan Wright (LSU Tigers), Jaemyn Brakefield (Ole Miss Rebels), Jimmy Bell Jr. (Mississippi State Bulldogs), Mabor Majak (Missouri Tigers), Jahmai Mashack (Tennessee Volunteers), Tyrece Radford (Texas A&M Aggies), and Ezra Manjon (Vanderbilt Commodores).
