South Carolina basketball commit to participate in Under Armour Next Elite-24 camp
By Kevin Miller
This weekend, the Under Armour Next Elite-24 Showcase will allow 24 of the best high school prospects in the world to compete alongside other top prospects, work with current and former professional players and coaches, and get in front of scouts from colleges, the NBA, and other pro leagues. When the event begins on August 10th, there will be a South Carolina basketball pledge ready to keep showing the world what he can do on the court.
Eli Ellis, the Gamecocks' 4-star guard commitment in the class of 2025, is one of just 12 class of 2025 players from the United States who made the cut (the other 12 are a mixture of international recruits and players from the 2026, 2027, and 2028 cycles). Ellis will be 1 of 11 guards competing.
As a player, Ellis is one of the most dynamic scorers in the entire class of 2025. A smaller guard, he makes up for his lack of size (listed at 6'0" or 6'1" by most outlets) and elite athleticism by having elite skills with the ball in his hands. Ellis has a tight and creative handle, he has knockdown shooting touch from outside, and his finishing ability inside is remarkable considering his size disadvantage in the paint.
Primarily a point guard at the high school level, Ellis could play either guard spot at the next level. His comfort level with the ball in his hands allows him to run point, and he has good passing vision, especially while driving. However, his catch-and-shoot ability and high basketball IQ could allow him to operate off-ball well, too.
On the girls' side of the Elite-24 Showcase, there are no USC commitments involved, but several South Carolina basketball targets will compete. Divine Bourrage and Zakiyah Johnson are the class of 2025 Gamecock targets who will be in New York this weekend. Both players are 5-star prospects who are heavily considering the Gamecocks.
