South Carolina Basketball's 2024-2025 Roster Breakdown:
Guard Jacobi Wright

South Carolina native Jacobi Wright is entering his fourth year with the program, and he has been asked to do a lot of things during his time in Columbia. He has been a starter, and he has come off the bench. He has played point guard, he has played shooting guard, and he has been asked to play both in the same game, as well.

This season, Wright likely will be tasked with multiple duties once again. A potential starter, the small guard likely will be asked to come off the bench as long as Cam Scott is ready to be a starter at shooting guard and Jamarii Thomas assumes his expected role at point. Depending on Morris Ugusuk's development, Wright could be the backup point guard, and he surely will play minutes at both guard spots.

Wright had some slower stretches offensively last season, but when he was playing with confidence, he had a much more comfortable-looking shooting stroke, and the results showed it. In games in which Wright played at least 20 minutes and took at least 7 shots from the field, he made 44% of his attempts and 38.1% of his outside shots.

Wright's low turnover output will be an important part of the Gamecock offense. Last year, despite playing over 20 minutes per game as a guard, he averaged just 0.6 giveaways, giving him an assist-to-turnover ratio better than 3-1. While he probably won't be the team's primary point guard, the work he will do as a secondary playmaker or as the point guard on some bench units will be crucial to the team's success.
