South Carolina Basketball's 2024-2025 Roster Breakdown:
Wing Lance Piper

Originally a class of 2025 prospect, Lance Piper committed to the Gamecocks as a walk-on player last summer and reclassified to the 2024 cycle so that he could enroll at USC this year. Piper and his family have known Lamont Paris for a long time, so the fit for him with Carolina should be seamless.

Piper went viral when he was in middle school as he dominated the CP3 National Middle School Combine, and there is still an avenue to success at the college level for him if things go well.

A tall and rangy guard at 6'5", Piper profiles as a wing for the Gamecocks, probably more at the 2-guard than at small forward. Either way, he has an intriguing upside as an offensive player who is capable of making tough shots. He's also a pretty good athlete who has thrown down some decent dunks on film.

Piper is thin, but he has enough length and quickness to be a good defender if he works hard at his craft.

Because of his physical stature, Piper could fit in nicely as an understudy to the other long wings on the roster (players like Cam Scott, Myles Stute, Zach Davis, and Arden Conyers). If he develops well and sticks it out with the team, Piper could become a factor for the Gamecocks in the future.
