South Carolina Basketball: Former Gamecock helping grow the game all over the world

Laeticia Amihere has done a lot on the basketball court. The former Gamecock was one of the top prospects in the world coming out of high school, and despite battling through some injuries while with the South Carolina basketball program, she was able to be a 1st round pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft and has represented Canada in the Olympics since her days as a college athlete.

Now that she is a professional, Amihere is a teammate of fellow former Gamecock Allisha Gray with the Atlanta Dream. She will start her second season in the WNBA this May.

But before she's back on the court with the Dream, Amihere has another major project to take care of in April.

Amihere, whose parents hail from the West African nations of Ghana and Ivory Coast, is working to give back to her parents' home countries. April 13th will mark the first annual "Courage in Couture" Fashion Show, a fundraiser put on by Amihere to raise money to build basketball courts in West Africa.

The event will take place in Toronto, Canada (Amihere was born and played her high school ball in the Toronto area) and will

Laeticia Amihere currently is playing in the unique professional league known as "Athletes Unlimited." The ever-changing league will pit Amihere and her team against former Gamecocks Tiffany Mitchell and Zia Cooke on Thursday before facing Gray's team on Sunday. Gray is the favorite to win the league's individual championship.

With the Athletes Unlimited season wrapping up in the next few weeks, the Courage in Couture event coming up in April, and the WNBA season beginning in May, Laeticia Amihere's schedule is going to be a bit busy moving forward, but South Carolina basketball fans everywhere are proud to have somone like her as an alum of their favorite program.
