South Carolina Basketball's 5 March Madness Storylines
A record is within reach

As mentioned previously, South Carolina basketball has tied its all-time record for wins in a single season. The Final Four squad in 2016-2017 won 26 total games. This year's team set a new mark for regular season wins (25) and then tied the record with their win over Arkansas in the SEC Tournament.

Now, the Gamecocks are one win away from making some new history. The Oregon Ducks stand in their way, and in a showdown between two of the most famous mascots in college sports, Puddles won't just stand idly by as Cocky gets that new record.

Oregon comes into the game hot, having won four games in a row, including three in a row to capture the final Pac-12 Tournament title. Beating the Ducks won't be as simple as most 6-11 games are in the NCAA Tournament's 1st round, especially since UO is undefeated in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament since Dana Altman became the head coach.

If USC sets the new record, this Gamecock squad will have an argument as the best team in program history, joining the aforementioned Final Four squad, the 1996-1997 SEC Championship team, and the Frank McGuire-led groups that went a combined 116-26 over a 5-year period.
