After losing the rivalry series against Clemson, South Carolina baseball bounced back with a 5-0 week last week, beating The Citadel, Davidson, and Longwood (3x).
The Gamecock offense was much better than it had been in previous games. USC won the five games by a total run count of 53-10, including two 10-run rule victories (both against Longwood).
The pitching continues to be good, as well. Other than allowing several unearned runs to score following errors, Matt Williams' pitching staff was sharp. For the season, the Gamecocks rank inside the top-3 nationally in ERA, H/9, and WHIP.
If the Carolina offense can perform up to its potential, those pitching numbers could propel them to a really nice season, one that many pessimistic fans had all but written off after the Clemson series.
With SEC play beginning this weekend with a road series against Ole Miss, the Gamecocks remain a fixture in all of the top-25 polls. In fact, most of the polls slid South Carolina baseball up a bit in this week's versions of the polls.
D1Baseball ranked the Gamecocks 20th in the country, a one-spot improvement from last week.
Perfect Game slotted USC in at the 18-spot in their rankings. The ranking represents no movement for Mark Kingston's team from last week's poll.
According to Baseball America, the South Carolina baseball team is the 12th-best squad in the country. They were 13th last week.
USA Today moved the Gamecocks up by one as they have Carolina ranked #20.
The NCBWA selected the Gamecocks as the 21st-ranked team in the land. They had falled all the way to 23 last week after the Clemson series loss.
Based on College Baseball Central's rankings, South Carolina is 12th in the top-25 after coming in at #13 a week ago.
The Gamecocks will play on Tuesday night against Georgia State in a neutral site game at SRP Park in North Augusta. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
