South Carolina Baseball: Gamecocks continue rising in national rankings
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina baseball won another SEC series last weekend as they knocked off the Missouri Tigers on the road in the "other Columbia." Cole Messina earned SEC Player of the Week, Austin Brinling found his way onto the SportsCenter Top 10, and the vibes around the Gamecock program are improving.
As the team gathers momentum on the field, they are also experiencing an upward trajectory in their national rankings, as well.
After holding the 15-spot in D1Baseball's rankings following their Kentucky series win last weekend, South Carolina baseball is now 13th in their top-25.
Perfect Game moved the Gamecocks up five spots from 21st to 16th in the latest edition of their rankings.
Baseball America also ranked USC 16th after sliding Mark Kingston's team into the #19 position a week prior.
14th in USA Today's top-25 is the only ranking of the week that didn't see South Carolina move at all.
The NCBWA (National College Baseball Writers Association), after ranking Carolina 14th last week, pushed the garnet and black up just one spot to #13.
The highest spot in the these national rankings comes from College Baseball Central as the outlet ranked South Carolina baseabll as their 11th-best team in all of college baseball.
Mark Kingston's team has four games upcoming this week, including a weekend series with huge SEC and NCAA Tournament implications.
The Gamecocks play on the road on Tuesday night against the Winthrop Eagles in Rock Hill. The game will be played at 6:00 PM EST and will be streamable on ESPN+.
After the mid-week contest, Carolina will be back in SEC play as they welcome the rival Georgia Bulldogs for a three-game tilt that begins on Thursday night. Game 1's first pitch is at 8:00 PM EST and will be broadcast on ESPNU and streamed on the ESPN app. Friday's game 2 will begin at 5:30 PM EST on the SEC Network and ESPN app. The series finale is set for Saturday at 2:00 PM EST and will be available on the SEC Network+.
