South Carolina baseball alums have been some of MiLB's best players in recent weeks

After very nice careers in garnet and black, South Carolina baseball stars Jack Mahoney and Braylen Wimmer were selected by the Colorado Rockies relatively early in the 2023 MLB Draft, and both players have acclimated very well to the professional game.
Mahoney had a pretty good start in his first outing of June, allowing 3 runs over 5 innings with 8 strikeouts and just 1 walk. However, in his next three times out to the hill, Mahoney was utterly dominant. In 20 2/3 innings, he allowed 0 runs, gave up just 7 total hits (just 1 extra-base hit), posted a 14-4 K/BB ratio, and threw his first professional complete game shutout. His ERA and WHIP for the month were microscopic (1.05 and 0.82, respectively). Mahoney also won two weekly awards during the month.
Wimmer, in 24 games in June, had 10 multi-hit efforts and is on a 13-game active hitting streak. Over the course of the month, he posted a ridiculous slash line of .387/.452/.677/1.129 while hitting 6 home runs and 9 doubles. He added 20 runs scored, 17 RBI, reached base by walk or hit-by-pitch 11 times, and stole 5 bases. Wimmer has split his time in the field between shortstop and third base.
The former South Carolina baseball teammates have been so good that promotions could be on the table for either player if things continue. Fresno is the Single-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, but if either player were called up, it likely would be to the organization's Double-A team, the Hartford Yard Goats.
