SEC rival fumbles recruiting pitch to major South Carolina football target

The top offensive tackle prospect in the nation is 5-star prospect David Sanders. A Charlotte, North Carolina native, Sanders recently cut down his list of favorite schools to include the South Carolina Gamecocks, Clemson Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Tennessee Volunteers.
As a player, he is the ideal mix of size and athleticism at the offensive tackle position and has all the tools to become an elite player at the college level and beyond.
This weekend, Sanders traveled up to Knoxville to check out one of his favorites. However, while visiting the Tennessee Volunteers, someone in the Vol recruiting office fumbled their part of the recruiting pitch.
During one of the recruit meals, Sanders had a big steak dinner put in front of him (the steaks were a bit too well done, but to each their own). However, the name card in front of Sanders' food had his name misspelled. Instead of "David Sanders, Jr." being printed on the folded orange card stock, the name on the card read "Davis Sanders, Jr." Click the post on Twitter/X below to see for yourself.
Ultimately, something like this likely doesn't play a role in Sanders' recruitment, but there have been stories of athletes who felt so disrespected by a name mix-up that they decided they didn't want to hear any more from that particular group.
One of the most famous examples came from the world of basketball as Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry was deciding between Nike and Under Armour for his signature line of shoes. During his meeting with Nike, Curry was referred to as Stephon Curry (pronounced Steff-on), instead of Stephen (pronounced Steff-en). That caused Curry to choose Under Armour.
After David Sanders' visit, he had good things to say about his time in Knoxville on social media, so the mistake doesn't seem to have caused any problems. Even so, South Carolina football fans (and the fanbases of the Vols' other rivals and the teams vying for Sanders' services) have had plenty of fun ribbing the orange and white for the unfortunate moment.
Sanders is still considering all six of the schools in his top-6 list.
