Just a couple of hours after Shane Beamer's South Carolina football team smacked the Kentucky Wildcats right out of their own stadium by a score of 31-6, ESPN announced that their weekly pregame show, College GameDay, would be on campus in Columbia for this Saturday's Noon ET kickoff between the South Carolina Gamecocks and LSU Tigers.

The GameDay crew heading to Columbia will be the first time they are in the Midlands of South Carolina since 2014 (the Gamecocks were the designated home team for a GameDay contest against the North Carolina Tar Heels in 2023, but that game was at a neutral site in Charlotte and not Columbia). USC has hosted College GameDay on six occasions, five of them coming during the Steve Spurrier era of South Carolina Gamecocks football. In total, Carolina is 3-3 in those games, including top-10 wins over the Alabama Crimson Tide (when 'Bama was #1 in 2010) and over the Georgia Bulldogs in 2012.

The week 3 slate in college football isn't the greatest, which is why a matchup between the unranked Gamecocks and #16 LSU Tigers was the best pick for GameDay. Even so, one national analyst is not happy about ESPN being in the Palmetto State on Saturday morning.

SEC Network personality Paul Finebaum joined ESPN's Matt Barrie on The Matt Barrie Show and had plenty to say about the worldwide leader's programming decision. Said "Pawwwwl" on Sunday that he believes the choice for College GameDay to attend Gamecocks-Tigers is "one of the more bizarre GameDay choices in its history."

Finebaum also threw some shade at South Carolina football fans for the negativity surrounding the program after an underwhelming opening weekend win over Old Dominion and argued that College GameDay would have been in Lexington, Kentucky for UK-UGA this week had the Gamecocks not messed up ESPN's plans: "[Shane Beamer] got the GameDay bus to reroute its way to Columbia...good for South Carolina."

Coverage for College GameDay will begin at 9:00 AM ET and will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPNU and streamed on the ESPN app. The Noon ET contest between Carolina and LSU will be shown on ABC and will be streamed on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
