South Carolina baseball picked up a commitment from class of 2027 player Mac Morris back in 2022 when Morris was just starting his 8th-grade year. Since then, USC head coach Mark Kingston has been fired, and Paul Mainieri has become the new head Gamecock, but Morris' commitment to the program seems strong.

Over the weekend, national college baseball recruiting outlet Perfect Game released their updated rankings for the class of 2027, and Mac Morris was featured prominently.
Morris is now ranked as the 9th-best prospect in the country according to Perfect Game. He is the 3rd-ranked shortstop in America, and he is the highest-rated prospect from the state of South Carolina, as well.
This summer, during a stop at the Summer Main Event Showcase, Morris was one of the top performers, leading to his jump in the recruiting rankings. Despite still having three more years of high school remaining, he showed off elite arm strength, throwing the ball over 90 miles per hour both from shortstop and from the outfield.
As an offensive player, Morris has good bat control and gets the barrel to the baseball much better than most 15 year olds can. He has shown solid power for a player his age, and his frame and athleticism provide plenty of optimism that he can keep growing into more power potential. His speed and athletic instincts make him a dangerous player on the basepaths.
Monitoring Morris' growth as a player over the next three years will be a fun watch for South Carolina baseball fans as they wait for the talented Palmetto State native to arrive on campus.
