Lane Kiffin trolls South Carolina football with Juice Wells 2001 video
By Kevin Miller
Former South Carolina football coach Steve Spurrier is the GOAT (greatest of all-time) when it comes to chirping at other programs. The all-time winningest coach for the Gamecocks and Florida Gators always spoke his mind, and he wasn't afraid to use wry humor to stoke the flames of rivalries and fire up fanbases.
In the modern SEC, Missouri Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz and Ole Miss headman Lane Kiffin have taken up the Spurrier mantle. For Kiffin, in particular, social media often is the medium of choice for his jabs, and his latest troll came at the expense of Gamecock fans as Kiffin posted a video to his personal account on Twitter/X.
The Gamecocks and Rebels are not rivals and have had virtually no animosity toward the opposing team or fanbase, but because of some events from this offseason and the barbs from Kiffin, that is changing quickly.
In Kiffin's video, former South Carolina wide receiver Juice Wells—a player who transferred to Ole Miss this offseason after controversially sitting out part of last season despite being healthy—was running a route in slow motion with a song playing in the background. That song was Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra," better known as the theme to 2001: A Space Odyssey, the song that has welcomed the South Carolina Gamecocks to the field of play at Williams-Brice Stadium as the team's entrance since the 1980s.
You can watch the video below.
Wells joined the troll job by posting his own message in response: "#HottyToddy" was followed by the emoji used to signify "Spurs Up," a moniker used for the Gamecocks.
The South Carolina football squad won't have to wait long before getting a chance at revenge on Kiffin and Wells. The Gamecocks will "welcome" Ole Miss to Columbia for an October 5th contest that currently is slated as a "flex" game that can be played in the late afternoon or at night.
No matter what time toe meets leather, the environment will be rocking, 2001 will be loud, and Juice Wells might receive the loudest boos in the history of Williams-Brice Stadium.
