"I see it as my calling," South Carolina football captain has big plans for his post-football life

South Carolina football fans are counting on their defense being a lot better in 2024 than it was in 2023. Personnel additions from the transfer portal and young players growing a little more experienced will play a big role in making that happen, but the Gamecocks also had several key veterans opt to return for their senior season instead of moving on to pursue an NFL career.
One of these veterans is linebacker Debo Williams. Williams, an All-SEC performer last season, is on the Butkus Award preseason watch list and has gotten plenty of offseason love for analysts looking forward to next year's NFL Draft.
However, though Williams likely has an NFL future, he already has his plans for life after football.
On Thursday, the Delaware native was a guest on SEC Network's Paul Finebaum Show, and after speaking with the long-time SEC media giant about this year's football team (by the way, Williams believes the Gamecocks' offseason work could lead to his defense being a unit that has "dominating" moments this fall en route to an improved season for the whole team), he told Finebaum about his plans for when his playing days are completed.
Williams graduated from the University of South Carolina this year and received a Mass Communications degree, and he told Finebaum that he hopes to have his own show one day and have a voice in the college football world. "I've just felt like that was my calling. Right now, it's football...but I will part ways with that one day."
Finebaum joked with Williams that he should just "try to play football and quit coming after [his] job" and told him that he could see Williams "sitting behind this microphone" one day.
For now, though, Debo Williams will be one of the top players on the Gamecock defense as the South Carolina football team looks to bounce back from a 5-7 campaign last year. They will open the year against the Old Dominion Monarchs on August 31st at Williams-Brice Stadium.
