How South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer has updated the Gamecocks' injuries
By Kevin Miller
On Wednesday night, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer released the first-ever availability report for the Gamecocks. For those unfamiliar with availability reports, the SEC recently mandated their version of injury reports for SEC contests, and because the matchup between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Kentucky Wildcats is the first SEC game of the season, the teams had the first crack at submitting availability reports.
The first report listed offensive lineman Jakai Moore as out and defensive back Emory Floyd as doubtful. Defensive back David Spaulding, linebacker Bangally Kamara, and EDGE Gilber Edmond were all noted as being questionable, and EDGE Bryan Thomas, Jr. was called probable. When the report was updated on Thursday, no new names were listed, but Kamara and Edmond were shifted to probable.
Friday night's update saw one change for the Gamecocks as Emory Floyd was moved from "doubtful" to "out." There will be one final update 90 minutes before kickoff, but there shouldn't be any major changes between now and then.
Defensive back Zahbari Sandy is out for the year with an ACL tear, and offensive lineman Aaryn Parks is expected to miss most of the season with a lower leg injury, but neither player was included on the availability reports. Wide receiver Jared Brown left the Old Dominion game with an injury, and some wondered if he would be ready to go this week, but his absence from the availability report seems to indicate he is healthy. Several other players got banged up a bit against ODU or entered the game less than 100% but should be fine this Saturday.
The most significant injury for Kentucky this Saturday is that starting running back Chip Trayanum remains out as he recovers from his broken hand. Rotational defensive back DJ Waller, Jr. will not play, either, and defensive tackle Keeshawn Silver is listed as probable.
