Former South Carolina football receiver finds new home in transfer portal
By Kevin Miller
Shane Beamer's South Carolina football team lost a large number of players to the transfer portal this offseason, but the majority of those players were not major contributors to the team during the 2023 campaign.
One of the position groups that experienced the largest amount of attrition was the wide receiver room. Six scholarship Gamecock wideouts elected to transfer as Antwane "Juice" Wells, O'Mega Blake, Landon Samson, Zavier Short, Kelton Henderson, and Kylic Horton entered the transfer portal at different points of the offseason.
Wells (Ole Miss Rebels), Short (Appalachian State Mountaineers), and Blake (East Carolina Pirates, Charlotte 49ers) have found new places to play in the transfer portal, though, O'Mega Blake transferred out of ECU after just a couple of months before landing at Charlotte.
According to a report from TheBigSpur's Hale McGranahan, Kylic Horton also has found a new home as he is joining the South Carolina State Bulldogs.
Horton was part of Shane Beamer's first full recruiting class, enrolling at the University of South Carolina as part of the 2022 recruiting class. In his two years with the Gamecocks, he did not accumulate any statistics and played very sparingly. He will have three years of eligibility remaining in college.
Despite losing six players from the receiver group (one being an All-SEC performer from 2022), the Gamecocks' additions at wide receiver are a net positive for the program.
Even through multiple coaching changes at the wide receiver position that resulted in Mike Furrey being the man for the job, USC is bringing in five transfer portal wideouts as Jared Brown (Coastal Carolina), Gage Larvadain (Miami (OH) RedHawks), Ahmari Huggins-Bruce (Louisville), Vandrevius Jacobs (Florida State Seminoles), and Dalevon Campbell (Nevada Wolfpack) all will be in their first season in garnet and black this fall.
All five incoming transfers could factor into the snaps at receiver this season.
