South Carolina baseball pitching coach Terry Rooney has been a busy many since joining the Gamecocks' staff just a couple of weeks ago.

Rooney, who had previously worked as the recruiting/player development director and pitching coach in two stints at LSU and as the head coach at UCF, was hired by new Gamecock headman Paul Mainieri. Since that time, the Carolina pitching staff has changed dramatically.

The Gamecocks added one transfer pitcher and one class of 2025 pitching prospect just before Rooney's hire was made official as Caleb Jones (Winthrop Eagles) and in-state talent Luke Roupe committed to the program. After the hire, two power conference left-handed pitchers announced their intentions to transfer to the South Carolina baseball program, too, as Wyatt Evans (Tennessee Volunteers) and Ashton Crowther (Miami Hurricanes) joined the fold.

On Thursday night, another lefty from a big-time college baseball program elected to commit to the Gamecocks out of the transfer portal. Posting the news on social media, former Georgia Bulldogs pitcher Jarvis Evans is the newest transfer addition headed to USC.

During his two years in Athens, Evans split time between the bullpen and starting rotation. He didn't post the greatest ERA number in 2024, but he logged more strikeouts than innings pitched in both his freshman and sophomore campaigns, indicating he has the potential for better results. It is worth noting, too, that Evans had two different pitching coaches during his two seasons with the 'Dawgs.

Evans was a top-500 national prospect out of the state of Georgia in the high school class of 2022, and his 6'4" frame has allowed him to reach the mid-90s on his fastball. He also throws a good breaking ball that he can alter to have a bigger break or late-breaking action.

He will have two years of eligibility remaining to play for the South Carolina baseball program.
