Fall camp starts this week; Five South Carolina football true freshmen to watch
By Kevin Miller
South Carolina Football's 5 Freshmen to Watch this Preseason:
Defensive Back Jalewis Solomon
Despite being a summer enrollee, Jalewis Solomon could be involved in a couple of position battles this fall. The former 4-star athlete out of Georgia is going to play cornerback for the Gamecocks, and he will battle with several other players for the starting job opposite veteran O'Donnell Fortune and is expected to compete for a role at nickel, as well.
Solomon is an explosive athlete with great hips for the corner position. He is long, too, and weighs nearly 200 pounds, meaning he should be able to hold up in run support, too. He will fight with fellow young players Vicari Swain (redshirt freshman), Emory Floyd (redshirt sophomore), and Judge Collier (sophomore) for a starting spot.
Frankly, Solomon is talented enough that many believe in the fanbase believe he could be a starter before his freshman season ends. He has NFL potential and should become part of the secondary rotation sooner rather than later.
Safety Jalon Kilgore is expected to start at nickel like he did down the stretch last season, but if he has to miss any time or is required to move back to safety, Solomon will be among the players competing for that job.
This fall will be big for Solomon as he was not around for the spring. If he is good enough to play, that spells good things for the South Carolina football team's on-field results this season.
